iPhoneTM Finishes on Top; Oreo® and Healthy Products Dominate Top 10

BOSTON (Business Wire EON) December 18, 2007 — Products featuring new technologies dazzled mainstream consumers in 2007 with the Apple iPhoneTM topping the list of the Sixth Annual Most Memorable New Product Launch (MMNPL) Survey. Thirty seven percent of consumers named the iPhone the most memorable new product launch, while two other high-tech products Windows Vista® at No. 2 and Motorola Razr2TM at No. 9 made the Top 10. Additionally, the iPod® video nano came in at No. 11.

The study, sponsored by Schneider Associates, BNP Medias New Products Magazine and IRI and conducted by comScore, surveyed more than 1,000 U.S. consumers about the most memorable new product launches of the year, current purchasing and behavioral trends.

Nabisco had a great year with its Oreo brand as Dominos Oreo Dessert Pizza finished at No. 4 and Oreo Cakesters came in at No. 6. Oreo has a long list of co-branding projects, with past partnerships with T.G.I. Fridays (Oreo Madness), Burger King (Oreo Sundae Shake) and most recently with Baskin-Robbins (Oreo Explosion). This year, strong marketing support of both products, including the popular Dominos Oreo Pizza Moustache ad campaign directed by the Perlorian Brothers, gave Oreo two of the most memorable launches of the year.

These Oreo branded products arent mere line extensions. They are great examples of incorporating long-adored products into innovative new platforms, said Joan Holleran Driggs, editor of New Products Magazine. As an ingredient in everything from ice cream to pizza, Oreo cookies have found a home in a broad array of product categories. Every marketer should embrace such strategic thinking.

An interesting trend arose from this years list with three health-on-the-go products making the Top 10: alliTM Weight Loss Capsules at No. 5, Diet Coke PlusTM at No. 7 and Subway Fresh FitTM Meals at No. 8. Subway continued building its brand with a stunning 90 percent of respondents saying that whether a product is fresh has at least some influence on their purchase decision. Seventy eight percent of consumers polled said they look for whole grains and 75 percent look for no trans fat.

Consumers are continuing their quest for healthy alternatives, said Char Partelow, Senior Vice President of Consumer and Shopper Insights at IRI. Even outside of the top 10, two of the products with the highest awareness among respondents were Dannon Danactive Yogurt Drinks and Hostess 100 Calorie Cupcake and Brownies, reinforcing consumers unwavering focus on better-for-you products.

Recall of new products remained low this year as 77 percent of respondents failed to name a single product in the Top 50 new products launched in 2007, including the iPhone. This is just a slight change from the five-year all-time high of 81 percent who couldnt recall a product on the Top 50 list in 2006.

It has become increasingly difficult to launch new products and services that really capture consumers attention, said Joan Schneider, president of Schneider Associates, a Boston-based marketing communications firm, and author of New Product Launch: 10 Proven Strategies. Even with the stunning success of the iPhone, recall is still remarkably low.

New Product Trends for 2007

The 2007 Schneider Associates, New Products Magazine and IRI Most Memorable New Product Launch Survey asked consumers which trends influenced their purchases most. Seventy four percent said they were more likely to purchase a product if it was Made in the USA. Additionally, 67 percent said their purchasing decisions were influenced by the country of origin, perhaps indicating a backlash from the recalls of toys manufactured in China due to concerns over lead paint poisoning.

While the iPhone dominated memorability, just 1 percent of Americans surveyed said it was a must have item for this holiday season. Nevertheless, high-tech products still commanded top spots on holiday wish lists. Thirty one percent of all respondents wanted some kind of technology or consumer electronics product, with 9 percent reporting they wanted a flat screen, HDTV/LCD or plasma TV and 6 percent saying they wanted a Nintendo WiiTM (which was No. 2 on last years Most Memorable New Product Launch list).

Top 10 Most Memorable New Product Launches 2007

Based on the feedback of 1,024 consumers nationwide, here is the complete Top 10 list, with percentage of respondents who listed the product launch as one they most remember in 2007:

1.) Apple iPhoneTM (37 percent)

2.) Microsoft Windows Vista® (26 percent)

3.) Febreze® Candles (14 percent)

4.) Dominos Oreo® Dessert Pizza (10 percent)

5.) alliTM Weight Loss Capsules (10 percent)

6.) Oreo® Cakesters (10 percent)

7.) Diet Coke PlusTM (9 percent)

8.) Subway Fresh FitTM Meals (8 percent)

9.) Motorola Razr2TM (8 percent)

10.) Listerine Whitening® Quick Dissolving Strips (7 percent)

Solving PC Errors

Solving PC Errors

PC errors can occur at any time—during system boot up before Windows even starts loading, while Windows is loading, and while your computer is operational. These errors occur due to many different reasons. Let’s investigate some of the common causes of these errors and what you can do to prevent or fix these errors.

Errors At System Boot Up

PC errors during system boot up usually occur if there is some problem in the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) settings. BIOS is a chip on your PC’s motherboard. This chip comprises commands and instructions that help in operating your PC.

Note: To view the BIOS settings, press the Del or the F2 key—whatever your PC supports—at the boot screen.
These errors may also occur if essential hardware, such as the mouse or keyboard, are not connected to the PC or are malfunctioning.

Errors When Windows is Loading

If your system freezes while Windows is loading, an error in the registry is most likely the cause. An error in the registry may occur if:

  • There is some problem with the application or update that you have installed before restarting your PC.
  • A hardware device or its driver has gone faulty.
  • You have recently performed system changes that are either not working properly or are not compatible with your hardware. For instance, you may change the display settings to something your monitor does not support.
  • A recently installed driver or software is conflicting with already existing software on your PC.

If the problem has occurred soon after you made a configuration change, try to restart your PC with the last known good configuration. To do this, restart your PC and press F8 as soon as the boot screen disappears—and before Windows starts loading. Use our Down Arrow key to move down and select the “Last Known Good Configuration” option.

If the problem has occurred soon after you have installed an application or have updated a driver or software, then you may try to uninstall this application or update and reinstall it once again. However, if the error is not allowing you to reboot in Normal mode, you will have to start in Safe Mode. In Safe Mode your system loads only the essential services and processes; this makes the uninstallation process simple and efficient. After you have uninstalled the software, it is recommended that you use a registry cleaner tool to scan and remove any related left over or erroneous entry from the registry. Once the uninstall is complete, you may restart your PC in Normal mode to reinstall your software.

If the above two steps do not fix your PC, then you may choose to perform System Restore—a feature in Windows XP enables you to rollback your PC to last known good configuration in case of a problem. You can start System Restore from Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.

Errors While the System is Running

Many types of errors may occur when your system is functional. For instance, an OCX error may occur, if an OCX file is incorrectly registered or is corrupt, and a code 10 error may occur due to problems with a device driver.

To prevent these problems:

  • Ensure that your system is updated with latest software patches, updates, and service packs.
  • Regularly scan and repair registry errors—you may use a registry cleaner tool to perform the task quickly, easily, and efficiently.
  • Perform regular antivirus and antispyware scan to ensure that your PC is free from malware, such as viruses, spyware, and Trojans.
  • Keep your hard disk free from errors and unwanted files, by using the tools such as Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter.

Above all, to prevent PC errors, be a vigilant user, be careful about the Web sites you browse, email—and email attachments—you open, and software you install on your PC. Additionally, perform regular preventive PC maintenance and ensure yourself a healthy, error-free PC.

Vista ??

October 2nd, 2007

With Microsoft saying early 2008 is the ending of XP being distributed alot of customers are buying pc’s with Vista on them. Personally I would still buy the XP Home (Professional) pc myself.

I actually think Microsoft will rethink their stopping of Windows XP for many reasons. First and foremost “people want XP”……Vista has not turned out exactly like they wanted.

Should you decide to go wild and buy a pc with Vista on it just make sure it is loaded with memory or you will regret it down the road.

Instant messages can be tracked in several ways

November 22nd, 2006

It seems as though your words disappear forever when an instant messaging session is over. That’s not always so.

Your IM is not a safe refuge for private chatter. Companies and government agencies can monitor and log instant-messaging conversations conducted on company computers.

Google saves chat sessions automatically and they can be searched later. Users of Google Talk must disable the setting or choose “off the record” for sessions they don’t want saved.

Instant-messaging services such as AOL’s AIM, Yahoo’s Yahoo Messenger, and Microsoft’s Windows Live Messenger don’t store conversations on their servers automatically. But they offer various tools for companies and individuals to log conversations.

Recent scandals demonstrate that instant messaging is not private.

Government-monitored IMs found inappropriate messages by a member of Congress, who then resigned. And IMs have figured in corporate scandals, as well.

Instant-messaging services are offering a host of new products and tools for tracking IMs. AIM Pro, a free version for individuals and businesses, automatically archives conversations and saves them for 14 days. The feature can be extended or turned off.

Microsoft’s Live Communications server, allows a company’s information technology department to log and search employee conversations, including those on IM services like Yahoo and AOL.

A study by the American Management Association and The ePolicy Institute shows that only 13 percent of companies now track and log instant messages. The crackdown, however, is starting to take effect. Two percent of employers have fired someone because of what they said.

About 26 percent of companies have fired someone for misuse of email.

Increase In Spam

November 20th, 2006

There is an article out pertaining to spam and the amount of it. According to stats in October 2005 there were 31 billion messages per day and now that figure has risen to 61 billiion messages per day.

So if you have seen an increase in SPAM you are not the only one. Spam is a massive market for the shady ones that do it and apparently they have a very good system in place.

Playstation….Is It Worth It?

November 20th, 2006

With the new Playstation out you just have to sit back and think to yourself  “is it worth it”. Obviously to these people it was. Two people shot another man while getting the new Playstation. What is so amazing if you look at the news this is not an isolated case. There are numerous news articles of this very thing happening all over the country.

Personally to me a Playstation or any other gaming device is not worth getting shot over.
